Watch College Football Without Cable

Sep 4, 2016 | TV Shows

Saturdays in the Fall mean College Football and cutting cable doesn’t mean missing out on any of that!

Our family took to the links for our annual Labor Day golf outing (yes, you can play golf without cable, too!). There was a cool breeze in the air and some brightly colored leaves dotting the grass. Instantly, I got excited to have college football on in the background at home in the afternoon.

How to Watch College Football Without Cable

So, how did we do that? Easy. First option will be your over-the-air channels.

Over-the-Air (OTA) Channels

Assuming you’ve taken the leap and cut the cord or are considering cutting the cord, you’ve most likely looked into an OTA antenna. This brings you channels such as NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX over the air – in HD – for free.

You can check out our recently published OTA Antenna Guide: Install and Setup for more information if you need it.

Every Saturday games are live in HD on these channels. Any top-rated college football team will have a majority of their games shown nationally on these channels. So, make this your first step.

Playstation Vue or Sling

Locally here in Minneapolis we need BTN to watch the Gophers play. Unfortunately, Gopher football hasn’t quite reached the national scene so 90% of the games are on BTN.

BTN is not one of the OTA channels.

So, we use PlayStation Vue. But, Sling is also an option. You’ll also be able to get ESPN, FS1, FS2, and others. If you haven’t looked into PlayStation Vue or Sling yet they each have a few packages and you’ll end up paying around $30-$40 per month.

We needed the Core Slim package on PlayStation Vue at $34.99 per month so we could get BTN along with Fox Sports North which we use to watch the Twins and Wolves. But, if you don’t need those, you can snag ESPN, FS1, and FS2 in their Access Slim package for $29.99 per month.

So, there you have it. You shouldn’t miss a snap of your favorite college football team!
